Measure your dachshund's chest (the widest part, right behind the front legs) — that's the number that matters most, not their weight or "standard vs. mini" status. Every dachshund is built a little differently. We size XXS–L based on chest measurement, and if your pup falls between two sizes, size up. A little extra room beats a harness that pinches.

Nope — that's exactly what it's designed to avoid. Doxies have a long spine and short legs, so a harness like our adjustable harness style that distributes pressure across the chest (instead of yanking on the neck like a collar) is the safer choice for their unique build. Our harnesses are built with that low-slung silhouette in mind.

We put emphasis on the word distributes because we believe that the shape of our harness does just this. Why? Because Dachshunds have large chests, and harnesses that are thin on their chest (Like super thin Y shape and strappy harnesses) and can slide side to side on each side of their chest bone, are not distributing that pressure -- instead they are putting the pressure on one side of the dog causing them to pull to the side in an unsafe way. This is why having that VERY THICK y-shape on the front of their chest is so important.

Logo goes front-and-center on the chest, straps run down along the spine. If it's twisted or riding up near the neck, it's not on right — a properly fitted harness should sit snug but let you slide two fingers underneath comfortably.

We don't recommend the washer, but it's easy to hand wash. Rinse with warm or cold water first to remove excess dirt (never hot water), then soak in warm/cold water with a little regular Dawn dish soap or detergent — no hand soaps, since the antibacterial agents in those can damage the material.
